Core Beliefs Playing For Keeps is guided by six core beliefs:
4. Today's fast-paced culture presents barriers to constructive play.
Time pressures, over-scheduling of young children, complicated family lives, the proliferation of violence in media and society, and an
over-emphasis on early academic achievement inhibit children's constructive play instincts and opportunities.
5. Increasing constructive play opportunities
for kids requires collaboration.
Improving the environment for constructive play requires open dialogue and collaborative action among parents, caregivers, educators, the scholarly community, the toy industry, and not-for-profit organizations. Our best hope to make a difference is through cross disciplinary
collaboration that includes diverse perspectives.
6. We have an obligation to make things better.
We each have an obligation -- a social responsibility -- to do what we can to improve the climate of play. Regardless of our various roles within the realm of play, whether commercial or non-profit, we need to make a meaningful difference.

Humanity has advanced, when it has advanced, not because it has been sober, responsible, and cautious, but because it has been playful, rebellious, and immature.
